La'NA'
What are your plans for taking care of your skin during the summer?
Although summer officially begins June 21, the last day of school seems to mark the beginning of freedom and outdoor activities summer camp, tropical beaches, hiking trails in the mountains, and home projects.
But how does your skin feel about all the fun of summer? Your skin, exposed more than any other time in the year, is a target for bee stings, bug bites, scrapes and cuts, and bruises. Add to that the heat and overexposure of the sun, even when you’re not sporting a swimsuit but perhaps digging in the garden or staining the deck.
As early as spring, my skin was exposed to poison ivy, scrapes, cuts and thorns, and I hadn’t even left home! That’s what happens to us gardeners. The simplest remedy I carry with me for scrapes is Simplicite Hand & Body Lotion. Each of its herbal ingredients provides therapies that are especially handy in summer.
Dating back to Roman times, originating from larve, or Latin to wash, lavender has long been enjoyed in baths as well as used in cleansing injuries. First to be discovered by a French scientist for its ability to speed wound healing, lavender is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and quality of easing the discomfort of bites and stings.
Calendula has been in use since ancient times. Encouraging the restructuring of damaged tissue, it provides anti-inflammatory and antibacterial antidotes for cuts, scrapes, and burns.
Marjoram was known as the “herb of happiness†to the Romans and “joy of the mountains†to the Greeks. It is both anti-infectious and antibacterial.
Bergamot relieves the discomfort of irritated skin and promotes healing.
Fresh Aloe Juice is soothing and healing to burns and calms rashes.
Orange quenches thirsty skin while also soothing and calming.
Sage is anti-inflammatory.
Peppermint relieves itch; it is anti-inflammatory and antiviral.
Some may wonder why we would not simply use the herb rather than a preparation. Lavender, for example, is said to be one of the few essential oils you can apply undiluted to the skin. However, this is not the case for my sensitive skin. Consequently, I prefer and recommend the soothing comfort of Simplicité’s Hand & Body Lotion. Keep a tube at the center of your activity – one in the kitchen, one in the first-aid kit for outdoor mishaps, one in your purse, and another in the car.
Simplicite Hand & Body Lotion not only makes you feel better, but it also enhances your appearance. Do you recall our previous article about great first impressions? Your face, hair, hands, and feet all announce something about youâ€â€and call attention to you as well. Therefore, why not make a great first impression this season?
If you are like me and want to keep your skin healthy in the summer, carry Simplicité’s Hand & Body Lotion with youâ€â€even if it’s only to the backyard!
